Windows 10 became the most prevalent operating system on desktops and finally (over 3.5 years old) bypassing Windows 7.

According to The Verge.

According to Net Applications, the current version of the operating system took 39.2% of the market compared to 36.9% in the system in 2009.

Windows 7 remained in demand despite Microsoft's efforts to transfer users to the new system. In 2015, the company offered a free upgrade to Windows 10, even for those who had previous versions of the unlicensed system.

Windows 10 had taken precedence over its predecessor in 2009 almost a year before the expiration of its official support. The updates will no longer be available on January 14 for Windows 7.

Currently, Windows 10 has installed approximately 700 million devices, including personal computers, tablets, smartphones, and the Xbox One console. In 2015, Microsoft planned to reach the figure of one billion devices, but these plans were quickly abandoned.
