BECKLEY, West Virginia – Members of the women's basketball team at Martinsburg High School have escaped serious injury when their bus crashed on the ramp east eastbound Eisenhower Drive I-64 Saturday night.
The team had played in the Big Atlantic Classic Tournament at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center, less than two miles from the scene of the accident.
The wreckage occurred around 8:49 pm. when the bus is overturned. It carried 12 players and several adults. There were initial reports of multiple injuries to varying degrees but none was life threatening.
All the injured were released for medical reasons on Sunday, including a student who was flown to the Charleston Area Medical Center.
Coach Kyle Triggs tweeted Sunday at 12:30 pm that everyone was safe.

Chief Guard Deaira Hairston tweeted everyone, but also asked for prayers.

Martinsburg principal Trent Sherman tweeted around 11 pm. that it seems that everyone has escaped a serious injury.

Gov. Justice asked for a prayer for the players, coaches and all those associated with Martinsburg High School in a tweet on Saturday night.

The Lady Bulldogs played against the Greenbrier East High School girls team, coached by Justice, earlier in the evening for the Big Atlantic Classic Championship. Martinsburg lost 60 to 55.
The County Sheriff's Department of Raleigh conducts the investigation with the assistance of the state police.
