Xiaomi continues to develop its own SoC Surge S2

One of the main leaders of the Chinese company Xiaomi explained the fate of the next generation of patented Xiaomi Surge monocrystal system.

According to product manager, Wang Teng Thomas, the Surge S2 platform has not been canceled and continues to be developed by the company. To explain this delay, he pointed out some "unexpected" problems.

The Surge S2 release of the new Xiaomi smartphones was expected earlier this year. The original, SoC Surge S1 debuted on a low-budget Xiaomi Mi 5C smartphone in 2017.

According to preliminary data, the Xiaomi Surge S2 is manufactured using the TSMC technology process of 16 nanometers. The platform includes four Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53s operating at respective frequencies of 2.2 and 1.8 GHz, the Mali-G71 MP8 graphics accelerator. It supports LPDDR4 RAM and UFS 2.1 flash drives. In terms of performance, it is approximately equivalent to Kirin 960.
