UNC game postponed; Snapchat video shows maskless players celebrating victory over Duke :: WRALSportsFan.com

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – The tar heels are on bench. A game scheduled for Monday night against Miami has been postponed, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced just hours before the forecast.

UNC Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham said: “We are disappointed that tonight’s game against Miami is postponed and hope every effort will be made to reschedule the game.”

The Daily Tar Heel posted a video showing Armando Bacot and Day’ron Sharpe partying without a mask on Saturday after their win over Duke.

A UNC athletics spokesperson confirmed that the video was part of the reason the match was postponed.

“I contacted UNC and ACC, and neither officially said it was [canceled because of the video] but according to one of my sources, when you see Day’ron Sharpe and Armando Bacot, two of North Carolina’s best players, failing to follow protocol that makes you question contact tracing and other risks potential, not only for the North Carolina team but also for Miami, ”said Joe Giglio, WRALSportsFan sports specialist.

“It’s definitely something to be disapproved of, but I would say almost all of my friends have partied with less mask this year at one point or another,” said rookie Ira Wilder. “I didn’t see too many people in the video so maybe she was a bit overwhelmed. [I’m] disappointed that the game was called off, we were all eager to watch it. ”

Some students at UNC-Chapel Hill have said other students are not taking the pandemic as seriously as they should.

“It shows that there is nothing wrong with going out without a mask,” Anyelin Lopez said of the video. “They don’t take it seriously. It has to be enforced.”

Lopez, who is a waitress at Que Chula, said what she saw over the weekend was scary not only for her health, but also for her job.

“It’s your livelihood, so you can’t close anymore,” she added. “We cannot close again, it would cost a lot of people. There are few people who can work in restaurants ”.

“We’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and we really need to bunker down and be especially careful about what we’re doing to get to the end of this pandemic,” Wilder said.

Chapel Hill leaders, including Mayor Pam Hemminger, will meet with UNC-Chapel Hill leaders on Wednesday to discuss tougher measures to prevent COVID-19 violations.
