An Uncharted movie was originally in the works of director David O. Russell with Mark Wahlberg attached to interpret Nathan Drake. Russell left the project in 2011 and was replaced by director Neil Burger, who then left the position in 2012. Director Seth Gordon was integrated into the project in 2014 with rumors that Chris Pratt would replace Wahlberg as Nathan Drake. Gordon left the project in 2015.
In 2016, director Shawn Levy was announced as the new director on Uncharted with Tom Holland as the young Nathan Drake. The movie Uncharted was now a prequel before the series of games. Levy resigned in 2018 and Trachtenberg was announced as the new director in January 2019.
The film Uncharted is still progressing and will now be the first film of Sony PlayStation Productions, a new film production studio led by Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan.
The current plan for the movie Uncharted is to keep it as a precedent, with a young Nathan Drake on his way to becoming the treasure hunter seen in the video game series.
Coincidentally, this is the second dramatic incident involving Sony and Tom Holland, after this week's reports on Marvel-Sony trading failed to secure Spider-Man's future in the MCU.
