DETROIT – Police are investigating a fatal shooting involving an officer that occurred Sunday night in eastern Detroit.

According to Detroit Police, about 200 people and cars were drag racing and drifting Sunday on East Grand Boulevard near East Milwaukee Avenue near General Motors Factory ZERO. Undercover police officers from Detroit were reportedly in the area in an unmarked vehicle.

Authorities said the officer fired several shots at the man, possibly four. Detroit Police say they are still investigating whether the man pointed the handgun at officers before police opened fire on him. The officers involved were still making their statements, officials said.

The identity of the man who was shot has not yet been released. Police say they are waiting to inform the family first.

The vehicle that hit the undercover agent’s vehicle was reportedly stolen in Dearborn. Police said three other people were inside that car during the incident, and they are still looking for them.

No other details have been released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
