Flight 694 from San Francisco was originally directed to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. But much to the dismay of the passengers, the United Airlines flight was redirected to San Francisco midway on Sunday.

The Boeing 737-900 double jet was scheduled to land at Kona International Airport at approximately 1400 hours. Hawaii time. Instead, he arrived at the SFO at 14:44, more than three hours after his initial departure.

In a statement, the airline said the plane had a mechanical problem and then had to turn around.

"The plane landed safely and the customers landed normally," he said.

"Customers will continue to Kona with a new crew on an alternative aircraft and we will compensate and apologize for the inconvenience."
