United States 0, Jamaica 1 | 2019 international friendly recap

In its penultimate friendly international match before the Gold Cup, the US men's national team lost 1-0 to Jamaica at Audi Field on Wednesday night, ahead of first head coach Gregg Berhalter.

Berhalter took advantage of the match to test his training by opting for a 3-4-2-1 in the first 45 minutes. However, he only gave two shots, both out of the frame, in a sloppy first half.

Jamaica, who pushed Zack Steffen to make two stops in the first half, has always looked at the most dangerous side, and Reggae Boyz has finally scored at the hour mark, a sensational strike at Shamar's distance Nicholson following a turn-over of Wil Trapp midfielder.

The USMNT claimed equalization, with Duane Holmes offering a spark on the substitutes' bench. Josh Sargent had the best chance at two minutes of full time, turning in the area and shooting at the frame. But Andre Blake managed to save the dive by trying a corner.

Three things

  • THE GREAT IMAGE: The USMNT was not good. Yes, it was a game that mattered little with experimental composition and training, but that's the first bad result under Berhalter. It will be interesting to see how they will react Sunday against Venezuela. As for Jamaica, consider this a statement of its intention to win the Gold Cup after falling in the last two finals.
  • MOMENT OF THE GAME: It's a fantastic finish from Nicholson, who cuts the ball to his right to create the extra space needed. But this happens in the middle of the field with Trapp taking too much time.
  • MAN OF THE GAMEBlake does not have much to do, but he has always been among the biggest players and that's what he did in the 88th minute, diving to his right to deny Sargent equalization.
