United States celebrates 20th anniversary of September 11 with morning memorials

The families of the nearly 3,000 people who died on 9/11 gather this morning at memorial events in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC, as some have said the loss was so brutal it doesn’t appear that 20 years have passed.

President Biden is expected to visit all three sites. Dark events in Lower Manhattan, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, will include wreath-laying ceremonies and moments of silence, with attendees mainly including families of the victims. Mr Biden does not plan to deliver a major speech at any of the stops, but instead presented his thoughts on the attacks and their aftermath in a video released Friday.
