United States: first death related to a vaping

Washington – A patient who had just spotted died at the hospital in the state of Illinois, in the US Midwest, following a serious respiratory illness, said Friday the local health authority.

The adult, whose age and sex were not revealed, was one of 153 people in 16 states with the disease since the end of June, according to figures released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The cause was not determined, but all had recently used electronic cigarettes, doctors said.

"The seriousness of the disease that people are experiencing is alarming and we must make it known that the use of electronic cigarettes and vaping can be dangerous," said Dr. Ngozi Ezike, director of the health department of the # 39; Illinois.

"We asked a team of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help us investigate these cases and they arrived in Illinois on Tuesday."

According to the CDC, many patients had recently been vaping cannabis, although no specific product has yet been identified, let alone blamed, for the disease, in either case. AFP
