United States regroups at World Hockey Championships with rout of France

KOSICE, Slovakia – The United States rebounded after losing to Slovakia in the opening match of the World Ice Hockey Championship by sending France 7-1 on Sunday.

After losing 4-1 against the host, the United States was not ready for another surprise. Alex DeBrincat scored twice and Frank Vatrano added one in less than two minutes to set the tone early in the opening period so the United States took the lead in the Group A match in Kosice.

Colin White also scored two goals, while Patrick Kane, who led the Americans to bronze at last year's World Championships in Denmark, scored his first goal in Slovakia and added a pass.

Chris Kreider added one for the United States while Anthony Rech scored a consolation goal for France.

The United States will then face Finland on Monday.

In the Group B match in Bratislava, Russia, with a very stellar track, recorded its second consecutive victory after beating Austria 5-0. Evgenii Dadonov led Russia with two goals for the second consecutive game, and Nikita Kucherov had a goal and an assist. Alexandar Georgiev made 15 saves for the shutout.

On Sunday, Canada will face Great Britain while Denmark play Germany in Group A. Sweden, reigning champion twice, faces Italy and Switzerland meets Latvia in the group B.
