‘Tina’ will land on HBO Max this spring, while Universal is planning a multi-territory theatrical release in early summer.

Tina, the upcoming documentary on music icon Tina Turner from the same team behind In Search of Sugar Man, was picked up by HBO for the United States, Altitude for the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Universal Pictures Content Group for the rest of the world.

The film will debut in the US in March exclusively on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. Meanwhile, Universal is planning an early summer theatrical release in multiple territories before hitting home entertainment platforms, and Altitude is hitting theaters and on home entertainment in April in the UK and UK. Ireland, in conjunction with its broadcast on Sky Documentaries.

First announced at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, the documentary comes from Oscar-winning directors Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin (Unbeaten, THE 92), Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on the wire, In Search of Sugar Man, Whitney) and Emmy-winning producer Jonathan Chinn (THE 92, Whitney), with Emmy-nominated producer Diane Becker (The last year, Belushi).

Tina is presented as a revealing and intimate look at the life and career of a music icon, retracing Turner’s unlikely rise to early fame, his personal and professional struggles throughout his life and his resurgence even more unlikely as a worldwide phenomenon in the 1980s. The film will feature interviews with Turner herself, conducted in her hometown of Zurich, Switzerland, and with her relatives, as well as previously unseen footage, audio tapes and photos personal.

Tina is the ultimate celebration of a global superstar and an intimate portrait of a woman who overcame extreme adversity to define her career, identity and legacy on her own terms, ”said Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn, co- founders of Lightbox producers. ” From her debut as the queen of R&B to her record breaking rounds in the ’80s arenas, Tina Turner pulls the curtain aside to invite us into her private world in a way she has never done before. We’re excited to partner with Universal, Altitude and HBO to bring the film to audiences around the world. “

Tina is a Lightbox production. Erwin Bach, Tali Pelman, Will Clarke, Andy Mayson, Mike Runagall, David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman are the executive producers.
