In no time, No time to die sparked a domino effect of release date reshuffles Sony and Universal. Following Yesterday’s Bond Movie Delay, Edgar Wright’s Release Dates Last night in Soho, the Bob Odenkirk-with Nobody, Ghostbusters: the afterlife, the star of Tom Holland Unexplored, and Jared Leto’s Morbius have all been reworked.
Universal and Focus Features wasted no time in reshuffling their theatrical release schedule after the six-month delay of No time to die, announcing that Nobody, the action film starring Bob Odenkirk, will be set back two months for April 2, 2021The revenge film was due out on February 26, but theaters would likely remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) during the winter (and let’s be honest, in the spring too) the release date has been vacated. Meanwhile, Michael Bay Ambulance is set to receive a President’s weekend outing February 18, 2022. The project produced and directed by Bay stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza Gonzalez.
Focus Features also announced a new date for Edgar Wright’s mysterious psychological thriller Last night in Soho, which is postponed by six months, from April 23 to 22 October 2021. Set in London and written by Wright and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Last night in London stars a star cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie, Matt Smith, Michael Ajao, Synnøve Karlsen, Diana Rigg, Terence Stamp and Rita Tushingham. Wright has been a strong advocate for the movie experience and posted the new release date on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Sony quickly followed suit with revisions to Universal’s release schedule. Despite the fervor over the recently released image of the gruesome new ghost of Ghostbusters: the afterlife, Sony fought off Jason Reitman ghost hunters after five months November 11, 2021, its second delay after being originally scheduled for July 2020.
Meanwhile, the long delayed Unexplored unsurprisingly, was pushed back again, until next year February 11, 2022. It was originally slated for mid-July 2021, though it has been in the works since 2008, adding to its legacy as a film that will likely never be released or seen by mortal eyes.
Sony has also changed the release dates of Morbius, the Marvel superhero film starring Jared Leto, which went on to January 21, 2022. Camila Cabello Cinderella, originally scheduled for February 5, will now open in theaters on July 16, 2021. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway jumped on a new release date, dropping from April 2 to June 11, 2021.
Update: Looks like Disney is the latest studio to take inspiration from Universal and Sony, moving two titles from 20th century studios: delay The king’s man from March 12 to August 20, 2021, and taking the animation Bob’s burgers film, originally dated April 9, 2021, entirely off the release schedule, by The Hollywood ReporterKit Borys.
