University Basketball Rankings: This is why Gonzaga, not Duke, is # 1 in the top 25 and 1

I knew that two things would be guaranteed when I updated Sunday morning the daily rankings of college college basketball CBS Sports – specifically, Duke fans would be angry because I had Gonzaga No. 1 and Duke No. 2, and that Kentucky fans would be angry because, well, because they're still angry.

(I am kidding!)

(A little!)

And guess what?

In fact, I agree with people who think Duke should be No. 1 because, as I explained on Sunday morningthere is a reasonable case for the Blue Devils. My problem is with people who insist that it's just impossible for Gonzaga to be No. 1 because, as I explained on Sunday morning, the Zags also have good arguments, given that they are A) 25-2 with a neutral victory over Duke and zero defeat against teams ranked outside the top 10, B) 12-2 compared to the top 100 KenPom teams, C) in possession of the best series of national victories of 16 games with 16 double-digit wins with an average of 31.3 points per competition, and D) the owner of the best offensive efficiency rating of the nation.

There is nothing crazy about having this team # 1.

As for Kentucky, I'm totally nice to people who think the UK should be in the top five, because it's pretty easy to argue that argument as well. My problem is address to people who insist that it's crazy that Kentucky is not part of the top 5 because, for various reasons, there's nothing crazy to have Kentucky behind Gonzaga, Duke, Virginia, Tennessee and Michigan, which is the case in the Top 25. And 1. And my biggest problem is about the crazies that have me tweeted all day Sunday why I "dropped Kentucky" after the Wildcats beat Tennessee and why "Michigan jumped Kentucky" after the Wildcats beat Tennessee.

This. Is. Do not. What. Come.

I swear that even if I live a million, I still will not understand why these daily rankings are so difficult for many to follow. But they are obviously. So let me make it as simple as possible. Please try to follow.

Michigan was No. 5 and Kentucky No. 6 in the Top 25 And 1 Saturday morning. Here is the proof. Michigan beat double-digit Maryland on Saturday afternoon, while Kentucky beat double-digit Tennessee on Saturday night. And on Sunday morning, I still had the numbers 5 from Michigan and 6 from Kentucky. Here is the proof. In other words, Michigan did not jump Kentucky; Michigan was already ahead of Kentucky. And Kentucky did not fall to No. 6; Kentucky was already No. 6.

(It was not difficult to follow, was it?)

If you're a smart Kentucky fan, please pass it on to some Kentucky fans, who are not so smart. I thank you in advance on behalf of my Twitter mentions.

Monday 25 and 1
