The first week of the 2019 college football season kicks off Thursday with 16 games (!) On the slate. The week will be spread over five days until Monday, so there will be a plethora of college football games throughout the weekend. It all started with the number 1 Clemson in action with the opponent of Tigers Week 2, number 12 Texas A & M, playing in a similar window. Both came out big winners against Georgia Tech and Texas State, respectively. The other ranked teams in action on Thursday include Utah No. 14 – in an early season holy war – and No. 17 UCF.

Clemson dismantles Georgia Tech, but Lawrence struggles
Clemson, the defending national champions, were the big favorites (-36.5) against Georgia Tech. Indeed, the Tigers met those expectations with a 52-14 win. The combination of quarterback Trevor Lawrence and semi-offensive Travis Etienne led Clemson to a pair of first quarter results, scoring 14-0. Then, after stopping Georgia Tech on a goal line, Lawrence hit a long bomb on Tee Higgins for another touchdown at 28-0. Dorian Thompson-Robinson fights Cincinnati defeat at UCLA
The Bruins made the trip across the country to kick off coach Chip Kelly's second season with the program and the results certainly did not go as planned. UCLA has only 218 yards of offense in a 24-14 loss. Most of these yards were offered by Demetric Felton, whose 71 rushing yards and 91 rushing yards accounted for almost three quarters of the yards in the field. Thompson-Robinson suffered particularly from two interceptions and two expensive fumbles. Cincinnati has a good defense, but these mistakes are unacceptable for the beginning of the second year.
Wimbush starts strong for UCF
Notre Dame's transfer, Brandon Wimbush, quickly put things in place for his new team, UCF, against Florida A & M in a shutout at 62-0. The double threat weapon put an end to the first order of the season with a 37-yard touchdown in front of Gabriel Davis for the mark to start at the bounce house. Overall, Wimbush was efficient with 168 passing yards and a few touchdowns. The Knights had no trouble battling the Florida A & M, who passed them by an impressive 694-96 yards – and are now turning to FAU.
