DALLAS – An unopened copy of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda which was made in 1987 was auctioned for $ 870,000.
Heritage Auctions in Dallas said the video game sold out on Friday.
The auction house stated that it was a rare version which was created during a limited production which took place for a few months at the end of 1987. The Legend of Zelda is a game of popular fantasy adventure first released in 1986.
“The Legend of Zelda marks the beginning of one of the most important sagas in video games; its historical importance cannot be underestimated… it is a true collector’s item, ”said Valarie McLeckie, video game specialist at Heritage, in a statement.
In April, the auction house sold an unopened copy of Super Mario Bros. from Nintendo, bought in 1986 and left in a desk drawer for $ 660,000.
