Well, here we go again. Some time ago, I made the joke that if this trend continued, the Google Home Hub (recently renamed the Nest Hub) will soon be free. Because for months, each week seems to bring another discount of 1 to 2 dollars.
Like this week: for a limited period and within the limit of stocks available, Altatac via Rakuten has the Google Home Hub for $ 55.99 when you apply the promo code ALT9 at the register. You must also be logged in to your Rakuten account (assuming you have one, otherwise you will need to register).
Originally, the Home Hub was selling for $ 149, but Google then lowered it to $ 129. Even before that, he started being sold by dealers for about $ 80, and every two weeks he seems to lose another $ 1 or two. Today marks the lowest price I have ever seen.
The home hub takes Google Home's smart speaker and adds a 7-inch touch screen. This opens the door to things like guided recipes, song lyrics, appointment calendars, and more. – everything your phone or tablet can do, but something that is permanent in your kitchen, for example.
There is no camera, so you can not use it for video calling as you can. Amazon Echo Show or Facebook Portal. (Some people might prefer this, given recent privacy concerns.) Google offers a smart assistant with a camera, the new Nest Hub Maxbut it's $ 230.
And do not forget the new Echo Show 5which is very similar to Google Home Hub and sells for $ 90 – but has a smaller screen, 5.5 inches. Just to complicate your decision, the Echo Show 5 is currently on sale at $ 65 for Amazon Prime subscribers.
Read the CNET Review of Google Home Hub to learn more. Verdict: Excellent notes, although the audio quality does not really compete with some smart speakers without a screen. Similarly, at Best Buy, he has an impressive average of 4.7 stars reviews from more than 3,000 buyers.
At $ 150, it would have seemed a bit extravagant. But at $ 56? Terribly tempting. (Of course, I'm also tempted to see if it can go lower.)
