The Cowboys could have tackled La’el Collins in the squad for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

As Daniel Wallach noted on Twitter (and as confirmed by PFT), Judge Amos L. Mazzant will hold a hearing on Friday as part of Collins’ motion for a temporary restraining order blocking his pending stay. The hearing will begin at 2 p.m. ET.

If Collins wins, the NFL will have no choice but to reinstate him for the Week 5 game against the Giants. Chances of securing a successful appeal before kick-off will be limited, if / when Judge Mazzant issues a TRO at or near the end of office hours on a Friday.

The league suspended Collins for five games under drug addiction policy. He missed three games.

He argues that the drug addiction policy, as revised in 2020, does not allow a suspension for missed tests. He also claims the NFL misrepresented to the referee that Collins had already served a four-game suspension, a fact the referee specifically cited when upholding the suspension.

In 2017, Judge Mazzant overturned the six-game suspension imposed on Ezekiel Elliott under the Personal Conduct Policy. An appeals court overturned the decision because Elliott filed his lawsuit before internal NFL proceedings were finalized.
