August is over, and that means it’s time to start watching the busy fall lineup. Beginning in September, the end of the year is usually filled with big games for PlayStation 5 and PS4. There’s something for everyone, too – various sports games make their annual debut, first-person shooters parade along, and there are a family title or two to boot. Let’s take a look at what will hit store shelves in September and October 2021.

NBA 2K22 – September 10

2K Sports’ annual basketball simulation returns, as you might expect. This year’s game will be on PS5 and PS4 and will bring a number of improvements both on and off the pitch. The action has been tweaked, taking you deeper into the sport; the city will be integrated into MyCareer, and you can even explore other options for star players, such as a career in hip hop or fashion. There are a lot of changes, big and small, coming to the game this year, and that should make for another great simulation.

From the creators of Dishonored comes Deathloop, a first-person action game about a man trapped in a 24-hour loop. To escape, you will have to find and kill a selection of bad guys in a single cycle. Before we get to that, you’ll be using as many loops as you need to gather information, find the most efficient paths, and come up with smart solutions to make killing your targets as quick and easy as possible. It sounds like one big, intriguing puzzle, and we have no doubts it will be a fun time.

The Far Cry series returns, once again with a new setting, a new story, and a new antagonist. Set in a fictional representation of Cuba, you will fight against Anton Castillo and his oppressive methods. It’s another exotic open world to explore, and it will have all the explosive action you expect from the franchise. Powerful weapons, a variety of vehicles, and animal companions will accompany you on this action-packed adventure.

Battlefield has had its ups and downs lately, but it looks like this year’s entry will be a return to form. Battlefield 2042 brings the franchise to a near-future setting, and with no single-player campaign in sight, this time it’s about that signature multiplayer experience. In addition to the usual modes you’d expect, we also have Battlefield Portal, which lets users create their own modes on favorite maps from previous games, and Hazard Zone, a more intense co-op experience. With up to 128 player battles and a bunch of post-launch support, this could be a real winner.
