UPDATE, 4:15 PM: From the Shasta County Sheriff's Office:

Update on Mountain Fire in the Jones Valley area and
Bella Vista (Shasta County) CA. The fire burned more than 600 acres
FIRE Unit of Shasta-Trinity by Cal, 1,110 threatened houses / structures
and about 3,885 residents evacuated. No injuries reported to
this time. These figures are very fluid and subject to change.

A rapidly spreading forest fire raging north-east of Redding is said to have already burned about 600 acres since the start, Thursday, around 11 am.

Firefighters and tanker planes are battling the fire, dubbed the mountain fire, which is centered in the Jones Valley area near Dry Creek and Bear Mountain Roads. The crews have not yet established containment.

the Shasta County Sheriff's Office provides up-to-the-minute information on his Twitter account and indicates ongoing evacuations on the following roads: Dry Creek Road, Jones Valley Road, Elk Trail East and West Trail, Christian Way, Driftwood Trail, Highview Trail, Scotts Trail and Marty Road west of Bear Mountain Road, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

The Shasta College campus on Old Oregon Trail has been evacuated. Highway 299 is also closed in this area.

An evacuation center for displaced residents was installed at Crosspointe Community Church at 2960 Hartnell Avenue.
