APPLETON, WI – A firefighter responding to a medical emergency was shot dead at a Wisconsin bus station, injuring three, officials said.

The shooting occurred after police and firefighters reacted to a medical emergency around 5:30 pm. Wednesday at Valley Transit in downtown Appleton announced police and firefighters. Appleton's agent, Meghan Cash, stated that there was no threat going on for the community, but she did not specify whether anyone would. one was in detention.

Tori Mourning lives in front of the transit center and heard the shot.

"I looked up, I heard a hen and I thought it was the gas mower that was pulling in. I heard it again. Another shot was shot and there was another man who came down and saw the gunman run away, "Mourning told WBAY-TV.

Mourning said that she had shouted for her children as soon as she realized that shots had been fired.

"I have shouted through my house that these are shots and that everyone is coming down," Mourning said. "Then I ran, and by the time I reached the top of my house, my kids all went down.

A procession took place during the night in Milwaukee, with the firefighter's body being transported to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office. Firefighters lined the street as rescue vehicles escorted the body. The draped coffin was then taken to the pathologist's office. The firefighter was a 14-year veteran of the Appleton Fire Department.

Fire officials said the funeral arrangements for the firefighter were underway and that the investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Appleton is about 120 miles north of Milwaukee.
