Update: FSU Cofer stays with his team and should not play Saturday

HARTFORD, Connecticut – Senior striker Phil Cofer, who learned after the opening game of the NCAA Tournament Thursday that his father, Mike, had died as a result of a long illness, will remain with the team this weekend, confirmed FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton.

Cofer met with the team officials and the school late on Thursday night to decide whether he should stay or whether he should stay with family members. Although Cofer remains in Hartford, Hamilton said he doubted the striker could play Saturday's game against Murray State.

The fifth-year athlete from Fayetteville, Georgia, missed the 76-69 win over the Vermont Seminoles following a foot injury.

Tipoff Saturday is scheduled for 18:10 and will be broadcast on TNT.
