Tesla Inc. TSLA,
+ 3.35%
is recalling 870 cars in China due to a roof defect that could cause a part to fall, AFP reported on Friday, citing the Chinese market regulator. The latest recall is for Model X cars produced between March 16 and July 31, 2016. Some parts of the headliner may have insufficient primer, which is used to improve grip, which means it could fall off, the regulator said in a statement. “If the trim falls off the vehicle while driving, it will increase the risk of collision or injury to the vehicles behind, especially motorcycles, which presents a safety risk,” the statement said. Tesla on Wednesday said it was recalling more than 9,000 Model Y and X vehicles for bolt issues and, in the case of the Model X SUV, the same issue with the headliner. The 9,136 X-models involved in the recall were carried out between September 2015 and July 2016, according to an NHTSA safety recall report. For the Model Y, Tesla notified NHTSA earlier this month of the recall of “certain 2020 Model Y vehicles” because the bolts on the car’s steering mechanism may not have been properly tightened, which could possibly interfere with management and increase risk of accident NHTSA said. Tesla shares canceled early losses to trade 0.8% before market launch and have gained 586% year-to-date.
