Urban Meyer and Big Noon analysts on Notre-Dame’s chances of moving to the PSC

It looks like many analysts are hopping on the Notre Dame train after their thrilling double overtime win over Clemson, 47-40, last Saturday night. In a tweet posted this afternoon, each of Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff analysts predicted the Irish would make the college football playoffs.

Three of them, former USC quarterback Matt Leinart, former Irish quarterback Brady Quinn and host Rob Stone are seeded to Notre Dame. This is where I also have them in my projected CFP ranking. Former Notre Dame aide and Hall of Fame coach Urban Meyer as well as former USC running back Reggie Bush have the Irish in the top three.

It doesn’t matter if the Irish end up as one of the middle seeded two, they go head to head anyway. In that scenario, they would face off against the state of Ohio, in what would amount to some sort of revenge game for the Irish.

The Irish haven’t beaten Ohio State since 1936, with the Buckeyes having beaten the Irish in each of their last 4 clashes since 1995. Their last game was at the 2016 Fiesta Bowl, where Ohio State defeated the Irish, 44-28.

The win against Clemson squarely put Notre Dame in the mix for a playoff spot, it would be their first since 2018, when they lost to Clemson. The Irish have certainly taken the Tigers off their back and will be looking to get the Buckeyes off their back if they end up facing each other in the semi-finals.
