Discussing the things that led him to Jacksonville, newly hired head coach Urban Meyer said the No.1 pick in this year’s draft was at the top of the list.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been the expected pick since his freshman year in college and remains the favorite to go to Jacksonville. Meyer did his part at a press conference Friday to darken matters by mentioning Justin Fields from Ohio state – he arrived after Meyer left school – and Zach Wilson from BYU as d ‘other elite players, but he hasn’t attempted a smokescreen about what position they’re going to go to.

“It’s a monumental moment for this franchise,” said Meyer. “We have seen some franchises explode and others fail. . . . It’s a QB sport. Whoever takes this shot, we must be right.

At this point, it would be a surprise if anyone other than Lawrence takes this shot and is the player who will have a disproportionate impact on Meyer’s success at the NFL level.
