Expect more rumors linking Urban Meyer to the Longhorns.

Urban Meyer, who hasn’t coached college football since the 2018 season, is the best coach available. Texas Longhorns fans all spoke in the fall of how he’s the kind of coach who could step in and replace Tom Herman to get the Longhorns back to where they want to go. And guess what? Just as the team lost to Iowa State, our first Urban Meyer-to-Texas rumor hit the net.

A new website called Austonia, which we had never heard of before, started a rumor that Meyer’s wife, Shelley, is heading to Austin to check out the real estate market. Austin is where the University of Texas is located.

Is there something in this rumor? Probably not, but it’s a good reminder of some things. First, expect there to be a lot of talk about Texas going from Herman. And second, expect more rumors linking Meyer to the Longhorns.

Herman has a hefty $ 15 million buyout, but we don’t expect that sort of number to stop boosters from shaking Meyer if he’s interested. Herman has gone 30-18 in four years and has Texas 5-3 this season.

Before all the Texas rumors, all of the talk last year was about Meyer heading to another school. In the past, Meyer has criticized Herman while he was an analyst for Fox.
