There are only a few constants in this world today.
The skies are blue, the oxygen is breathable, everyone is complaining about tax season, and Alabama is way ahead of the rest of the college football field.
You do not believe me? Take a look at what happened last season. The Crimson Tide has ranked among the best in almost every offensive category and has allowed its team members to break one-season records in a shortened pandemic season.
He also led each team on their way with an average margin of 29 points. This included wins against talented teams such as Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame and Ohio State in the national title game.
The game against the Buckeyes was particularly appalling due to how the Big Ten representative was seen as the only team capable of standing up to Nick Saban’s juggernaut. Yet the January title game proved it all is that the state of Ohio still has work to do to defeat the Crimson and White.
Former Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer recently acknowledged the gap Alabama may have widened during Saban’s tenure. But he is hopeful that Day will be able to figure things out and find a way to compete in the future.
“It is reality. You take a job like this, you take a job like Ohio State and that’s the wait and that’s what they did, ”Meyer said during an appearance on the Big Ten Network Buckeyes Thread. “They’re going to appreciate the fact that they beat Clemson, but it’s also the harsh reality of the Big Ten having to start over. I used the word “hunt” in 2012. Our conference was very average. The Big Ten conference was not great. And then people started recruiting and pushing and started going, and the reality is that the best Big Ten team was beaten by Alabama. It’s OK. Ohio State is recruiting at a level, they’ll be back here.
“I think it’s a challenge for everyone else at this conference to get started. I mean, the whole country has seen this. And it’s not just the Big Ten – it’s also the Pac-12 and the Big 12. The reality is that Alabama is on a different stratosphere right now, ”Meyer said. “Go get them. The only school that recruits at this level is Coach Day and Ohio State. So I think it’s a permanent call for everyone. I can tell you that there are coaches across the country – we see this team that just played tonight saying, ‘We have to go get them.’ “
Meyer coached the Buckeyes from 2012 to 2018 and was the man who named Day as his successor when he retired from training. He was clearly a big supporter of Day when he served as the team’s offensive coordinator and interim head coach under him in 2018.
