US edits China to win most gold medals at Tokyo Olympics

America’s dominance was manifested in swimming and track and field, in which American athletes won 11 and seven gold medals, respectively.

Caeleb Dressel led the way among America’s individual gold medalists with five gold medals racked up in the pool. Other swimmers Katie Ledecky, Bobby Finke and Zach Apple each won two gold medals, while track and field stars Sydney McLaughlin and Athing Mu also walked away with two gold medals each. The US women’s gymnastics team won two gold medals, with a gold medal for Suni Lee in the all-around final and a gold medal for Jade Carey in the floor final.
