The third major championship of the new PGA lineup begins Thursday and the 2019 US Open is designed to be the toughest event of the season. The USGA has chosen Pebble Beach Golf Links to host the prestigious tournament for the sixth time this week. She has spent months cultivating hard ground and drying out the greens to ensure that one of the shortest major championship sites remains -player's 2019 US Open field. With Pebble Beach's forecasts predicting double-digit wind speeds throughout the week, this iconic venue will undoubtedly be one of the stars of the show when the first hours of departure in the United States in 2019 begin Thursday at 9:45. Superstars like Dustin Johnson (7-1), Brooks Koepka (8-1), Tiger Woods (10-1) and Rory McIlroy (10-1) are among the favorites of the latest 2019 US Open. SportsLine's prediction model, built by DFS professional Mike McClure, allowed five major teams to enter the weekend, including Koepka's historic victory at the 2019 PGA Championship. He also described Tiger Woods' deep race in last year's PGA Championship, despite a 25-1 shot.
The model was also showcased during the 2018-19 season. Champion Rory McIlroy won the title at the Players Championship, making him one of the top two contenders from the start. He also correctly predicted Koepka's (9-1) win at the CJ Cup earlier this season. In addition, he rightly called the victory of Bryson DeChambeau (9-1) on seven shots at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Anyone who has followed the model is up.
Now that the US Open 2019 field is taking shape, SportsLine has simulated the event 10,000 times and the results have been surprising. The model calls for a shock: Francesco Molinari, winner of the Open 2018 and 6th golfer in the world, ranks just among the top 30 of the 2019 American Open.
Molinari has a PGA Tour victory this season as well as three top-10 performances, including a fifth-place finish at the 2019 Masters. However, he's coming to Pebble Beach to fight in his recent tournaments. He missed the RBC Heritage Cup and then finished 48th in the PGA Championship and 53rd in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
And although he has at least one top-five performance in the other three major tournaments of his career, he has never finished in the top 10 at the American Open. He is out of the top 100 in driving distance (291.1 yards) and is close to the 200th lap in regulation green percentage (61.76) this season. McClure's model says that Molinari is not worth the detour, even at 35-1.
Another surprise: Adam Scott, a long shot 30-1, made a good performance in the title. It has all the necessary tools to hastily climb the US 2019 Open ranking.
The Australian may not be known as Koepka, Johnson, Woods and McIlroy, but he already has a major victory to his credit. Scott won the 2013 Masters, beating Angel Cabrera in play-off and scoring 9 points. He beat Woods by four in this tournament, which took place on another PGA landmark, Augusta National.
Scott is ranked in the top 20 in the official world golf rankings and in all points of the FedEx Cup and is poised to enter the US Open 2019. He was Patrick Cantlay's finalist at Memorial less than two weeks ago and finished eighth at the PGA Championship, the second major golf of the year. In the Masters, Scott finished 18th after shooting 69 and 68 in his first two laps. Scott brings the eighth best points average to Pebble Beach on Thursday.
In addition, the model indicates that four other golfers with US opening odds of 2019 equal to or greater than 2019 are a strong performance in the title. Anyone who supports these outsiders could hit hard.
