US policeman suspended for arresting six-year-old children

A US police officer was suspended after arresting six-year-olds at a school in Orlando, Florida.

One of the two men was handcuffed after launching a temper tantrum and kicked a teacher, the girl's grandmother told the US media.

The officer, Dennis Turner, was suspended as officials said he had not obtained the necessary permissions to stop the two.

Prosecutors say that they will try to erase the arrests from their archives.

Both children were charged with battery for minor misdemeanors. Few things about the other arrest – which was the subject of a separate incident – were made public.

"The children will not be prosecuted and, just as importantly, I am looking for solutions to redress the legal damages, such as the removal of the arrest of the children's case," said the Attorney General. Aramis Ayala at a press conference.

Orlando Rolón, the chief of police, said in a statement: "As a grandparent of three children under the age of 11, I am very concerned about this, and our department strives to provide professional and courteous service. "

The police did not identify any of the children, but the grandmother of one of the children stated that she was suffering from sleep apnea, which had contributed to her behavior.

Meralyn Kirkland told NBC that when she went to get her granddaughter in jail, "they told us we had to wait a few minutes because [she] was fingerprints, and when she said fingerprints, it hit me like a ton of bricks. "
