Steve Holland of Reuters examined what Trump intended to be his “counter-programming” as the DNC takes hours of prime-time viewing and political attention.
Trump’s goal, Holland writes, in campaigning this week is to limit the damage to his reputation by the DNC. National polls and many battlefield states already show it in serious trouble.
With visits to four states planned, he plans to inject as often as possible this week into Joe Biden’s carefully choreographed shots.
Besides Oshkosh, Trump will travel to Mankato, Minnesota on Monday, Yuma, Ariz. On Tuesday and Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Pa. On Thursday. Vice President Mike Pence is also traveling.
Trump will be pushing a public order theme in Minnesota, the state where George Floyd’s death gave new national impetus to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The main event will take place in Scranton on Thursday, the same day Biden accepts his party’s nomination. One aide said Trump’s Scranton speech will review “Joe Biden’s four decades in public life” and compare his record with that of Trump over the past three and a half years.
Some of the Trump campaign events will be held in airport hangars with crowds ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 people seated at a socially distant distance from each other.
As Trump travels, his re-election has enabled a large-scale digital ad buy that could reach $ 10 million, a campaign official said.
Trump’s campaign will take over the YouTube banner for 96 hours starting Tuesday and run ads on the homepages of The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and FoxNews.com.
