US security authorities are investigating reports that curtain airbags can unfold for no reason on some large Mazda CX-9 SUVs.
Documents released Monday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that two owners have complained about the problem. Four people were injured in one of the cases.
In both complaints, owners told the agency that the right and left airbags were triggered for no reason during the displacement of the SUVs.
The probe covers the CX-9 model year 2010 to 2013. Mazda has sold just over 112,000 sport utility vehicles from 2010 to 2013.
The security agency says investigators will determine the frequency of the problem and determine the consequences for security. The agency could request a reminder.
Mazda said in a statement cooperate with NHTSA.
