An American couple was missing after their disappearance more than two weeks ago after leaving their hotel room at the end of their vacation in the Dominican Republic.

Orlando Moore, 43, and Portia Ravenelle, 32, were due to return to their home in Mount Vernon, New York, on March 27, after a four-day getaway on the north beach of Samana.

However, the couple never went to the airport after leaving their hotel.

Their families have not heard from them for more than 13 days. Their phones are off and their car is still parked at Newark International Airport. Authorities said there was no trace of their entry into the United States.

Moore's brother, Lashay Turner, told NBC New York that his brother and Ravenelle had rented a rental car during their stay in the Dominican Republic, but that there was no trace of the car.

She told the news channel that the couple's families had been in contact with US authorities in the Dominican Republic and had filed a police report.

"We called DR and they said they did not fly," Turner said. "We also talked to someone from US Customs and they said my brother had not made his flight home here."

According to researchers, the hurricane season 2019 will be slightly below average

A photo considered the last of the couple on social media shows that they ride together.

"I'm scared, I do not know what's going on," Turner said. "I am saddened, my family is saddened by this and we just want my brother to come back safe and sound."

A spokesman for the State Department and the US Embassy in Santo Domingo did not immediately respond to Fox News's request for comment early Monday afternoon.

It is not known which airport the two men were to return to and how far was their hotel. There is an airport at Samana that offers mainly seasonal flights to the island, mainly from Europe. The next closest airport in the region is Santiago's Cibao International Airport, which offers daily flights to and from the United States.

The State Department's travel advisory for the Dominican Republic, published on February 12, 2019, indicated that tourists needed to exercise greater caution because of crime.
