SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. – Three weeks after a ticket won the $ 1.5 billion record jackpot, lottery officials are still waiting for a winner to come out, reports WLTX.

The lottery officials confirmed that a ticket purchased from a convenience store in Simpsonville, South Carolina, corresponded to the six numbers of the October 23 draw.

After the monumental victory, the lottery urged the potential winner to sign the ticket, deposit it in a safe and get financial advice from a planner or a lawyer.

The lottery, however, does not know if the winner has taken this advice or why no one has spoken.

The winner still has a lot of time to make himself known.

A winner has 180 days, or about six months, to claim his prize, which gives the ticket seller until April 21 to officially become the latest billionaire of the United States.

If the winner never shows up, every state participating in the Mega Millions game gets back all the money that their state has paid. Different states use money in different ways.

Of course, even if the winner shows up, the world may never know his name.

South Carolina is one of eight states where winners can remain anonymous.

The winning numbers were 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 and Mega Ball 5. The lucky player overcame bad luck: the chance to match the six numbers and win the first prize is 1 in 302.5 million.
