One year old twins were found seriously injured Wednesday night in a Queens family home. One of them eventually died, and their mother, aged 30, was arrested, police said.
Three other girls, aged 2, 4 and 5, were also inside the Ashby Avenue home in Auburndale, where the babies were found with severe body trauma around 10 pm, according to the report. New York police. The other three were not injured, but were taken to a neighborhood hospital as a precaution. They are under the care of the ACS.
The injured babies were taken to two hospitals in the area, the police said. It is there that the girl, identified as Elaina Torabi of Queens, died of her wounds.
The boy, whose name has not been made public, remains in the hospital in critical condition, said the police, who added that he would probably survive.
The mother of the five children has been arrested by the authorities but no charges have yet been laid. Police said that the father of the children did not live at home and came in intermittently. It is not clear if the family had a history with the police or the children's services.
Early Thursday, police records were seen surrounding the house near Utopia Parkway, while an officer stood guard at the front door.
A medical examiner will determine the cause of Elaina's death. The investigation is underway.
