CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ten breweries in northeastern Ohio won medals at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.
It was a phenomenal demonstration for the state breweries. In total, 13 breweries in Ohio won 14 medals. Brink Brewing in Cincinnati won two awards. State breweries have amassed five gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
Northeastern Ohio was very well represented, with established and newer breweries taking gear on the scene Saturday.
The Fat Head brewery won the honors for a tenth consecutive year.
Cleveland's Masthead Brewing Co. won its second medal in two years after opening its doors in early 2017. It won a bronze medal last year for its Midwest Red, which once again attracted the world's best. be careful of the judges this year.
"It was great," said brewer Mike Pelechaty. "There was a lot of tension in the air as bronze and silver were announced, it was really good this week, I could not have been happier."
Ignite Brewing Co. won silver for its Cherry Blonde in the American Fruit Beer category.
The six Ignite owners opened their brewery in downtown Barberton during Labor Day weekend, in 2017, but they soon realized that they needed to expand their location on the town. W. Tuscarawas Avenue. "We had a bit of confidence," said Chisnell, who said the category had scored 140 entries.

Like Ignite, Paradigm Shift also won its first competition. Michael Malinowski's brewery opened on December 1, 2017 in Massillon.

The three-day GABF festival, which brings together 800 breweries and 3,800 different beers, culminated on Saturday, September 22 with the announcement of the winners of the annual brewing competition.
This competition is both strict and extremely competitive: the breweries offer up to four beers in several categories, some of which can attract hundreds of entries for one of the three medals. The judges are certified and the competition is blind.
The results put some breweries on the map while strengthening the reputation of others.
