HASKELL, NJ (WABC / CNN) – A virus outbreak in a New Jersey medical facility is breaking heart and families.
The adenovirus has affected dozens of people in the nursing and rehabilitation center of Wanaque, New Jersey.
At least 10 deaths are confirmed. Twenty others became ill.
"I said" What do you mean? "And then he spoke to me about the virus." Said Kristine Poulos, who lost her daughter Elizabeth, 16 years old, following an adenovirus.
"I had never heard of it," she says. "My firstborn, my daughter. My beautiful Elizabeth Anne. "
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have stated that adenoviruses are usually spread through personal contact or by touching an infected surface with the virus.
Symptoms include fever, sore throat and bronchitis.
The virus often does not cause major problems to relatively healthy people, but can be dangerous for people with weakened immune systems.

Meanwhile, a separate strain of adenovirus was discovered at another pediatric facility in New Jersey, where at least five children contracted the virus.
The New Jersey Department of Health has announced that a team of infection experts and epidemiologists would investigate a number of facilities over the next few weeks.
