CRÊME PHILADELPHIA – Last year, the Eagles were able to overcome several major injuries during the season to win the franchise's first Super Bowl title. This year, the Eagles have suffered significant injuries since the beginning of the season.
Philadelphia is 2-2 while a season-ending injury has delayed the Eagles' success. From quarterback Carson Wentz to wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan, a list of major players have been facing health problems in the first month of the season.
Here are the 10 injuries that affected the Eagles' slow start:
Carson Wentz – ACL and LCL Surgery
Time outside the composition: Week 1-2
Impact: The Eagles were deprived of Wentz for two weeks and the offensive was in serious trouble. While the Eagles did not have some other weapons – more on them later – during this two-week period, Wentz's return in the third week showed his exacerbated talent over his replacement, Nick Foles . Wentz has led the Eagles to a 1-1 record in his last two games, but it's clear he's moving the ball more effectively than Foles. Wentz has shown no signs of trouble since recovering from the December ACL and LCL surgeries.
Rodney McLeod – Fractured Fibula
Time outside the composition: Week 4 – ??? (IR)
Impact: The Eagles defense was exposed in high school against the Tennessee Titans in the fourth week, in part because of McLeod's absence. The veteran defensive back broke his leg against the Indianapolis Colts in the third week. Although his value for training has always been a subject of polarization, McLeod clearly played an important role in the success of the Eagles' defense. Substitutes Corey Graham and Avonte Maddox had significant struggles against the Titans.
Alshon Jeffery – Shoulder Surgery
Time outside the composition: Week 1-3
Impact: Jeffery contributed greatly to the attack when he returned from Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans. Before his return, the Eagles were struggling to move the ball, a trademark of Doug Pederson's offense. While two of his failed matches came with Foles as a starting quarterback, the Eagles receivers failed to part with the cover without Jeffery. Now that he's back, the Eagles should be able to open things up more coherently.
