CHARLOTTE, NC (WJBF) / (WTVD) – Hundreds of people lined up to receive a vaccine against hepatitis A after eating at a Hardee in North Carolina.
Health officials are facing an outbreak of hepatitis A with 12 cases since the beginning of the year.
A victim was working with the Hardee and was contagious as early as June 13th.
Hepatitis A is not chronic, but you must be vaccinated within 14 days of exposure for the inoculation to work.

Health officials are facing an outbreak of hepatitis A with 12 cases since the beginning of the year.
A victim was working with the Hardee and was contagious as early as June 13th.

Officials stated that the employee who had tested positive for hepatitis A was manipulating the food and that others had been exposed.

" We did not have any information yesterday and if we had talked to the state yesterday, it really would not have changed our schedule, "said Health Director Gibbie Harris. It is usually passed on when people do not wash their hands after using the bathroom.
The Hardee's restaurant closed voluntarily Tuesday afternoon.
A statement from a company spokesperson is as follows:
" We can confirm that an employee of the restaurant Hardee's located at 2604 Little Rock Road in Charlotte, North Carolina, was recently diagnosed with H epatitis A. Once CKE became aware, we immediately followed up with Mecklenburg County Public Health, which conducted an inspection on Monday, June 25th. Department of Health determined that a mandatory closure was unnecessary, out of caution for our employees, guests and community, we supported the voluntary closure of the franchise restaurant in the afternoon of Tuesday June 26.
The franchise owner works closely with the health department and follows all the recommendations to ensure the health of our employees and customers, based on the advice of the department. We invite all guests who have visited our Hardee Restaurant at 2604 Little Rock Road between June 13 and June 26 to be vaccinated. More information can be found at www.meckhealth.org "
