BENGALURU: With 102 cases of influenza A H1N1 reported this year in Karnataka, an alert has been triggered in the state. From January 1 to September 25, 3,968 suspected H1N1 cases were reported and 167 tested positive.

The Department of Public Health and Family Welfare issued a circular to all districts to take precautionary measures and store Tami Flu tablets which will be distributed free of charge to patients. "Last week, the number of cases increased across the state, especially within the boundaries of the BBMP, in Bangalore Urban, Shivamogga, Hassan and Dakshina Kannada districts, which caused concern. Any case of viral fever must be taken seriously, "said Dr. Sajjan Shetty, co-director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare. H1N1 flu, a contagious viral infection, has symptoms similar to common flu, including cough, fever, sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, chills and fatigue.

A throat swab confirms if the person is suffering from the virus.
