The couple reportedly asked the grandson to clean his room and take care of himself throughout the day because he "was stubborn about it".
Officials said the two men then sat on their sofa in the living room to watch TV. The grandson would then have approached behind them and would have shot Yvonne in the head with a weapon belonging to the grandfather.
The grandfather then ran after the grandson but quickly returned to help his wife. Moments later, he reported that the grandson was then shot in the head.
At this point, the grandfather recovered the gun and called 9-1-1.
