LAKEWOOD – New Jersey health officials have confirmed six more cases of measles in a community in central New Jersey.
The latest confirmed cases bring the total to 12 in Ocean County, officials said Thursday from the Department of Health's Department of Health.
According to officials, infected people may have exposed the disease to other people while they were on the Lakewood and Ocean County site between October 25 and November 9. The state health department considers that there is a measles outbreak in the community.
The twelfth case of measles was confirmed in a person who, according to health authorities, exposed others at locations in Lakewood and Toms River between November 6 and 9.
Anyone who has visited the following places may have been exposed to measles:
• Fountain Ballroom, 725 Vassar Ave., Lakewood from October 30 to 31 between 6pm and 6pm. and 1h30
• Mesivta of Eatontown, 1300 New Hampshire Ave., Lakewood and 107 East Harvard Street, Lakewood November 6-9
• Shalom AKA Alumni Bais, 345 9th St, Lakewood on November 6th between 1:15 pm and 6:45 pm.
• Motor Vehicle Commission, 1861 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, November 7, between 2:30 pm and 5:15 pm
Anyone who thinks they may be exposed should contact a health care provider before going to a doctor's office or emergency department so that special arrangements can be made for an assessment. This also protects other people and medical staff from possible infection.
Measles is a very contagious disease. Symptoms include rash, high fever, coughing, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
