The family of a 14-year-old girl pleaded Friday for the driver who killed her to surrender.

Jade Maldonado, a freshman at Pacific High School, was killed Friday morning as she walked down Pacific Street and Glasglow Avenue into a pedestrian crossing as she walked to school.

A woman in a sport utility vehicle in gold or silver hit her and then knocked her down, officials said.

Jade died in a hospital.

The surveillance video shows the collision. The SUV was described as a GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Tahoe in gold or silver. Investigators say the damage to the front will be considerable.

Family members demand that the driver show up so that Jade can get the justice that she deserves. She dreamed of going to university and was a student of honor.

"She saved her brothers' lives from leukemia by giving her a bone marrow transplant," said her uncle Gino Alarid. "We were already preparing for the university."

Delia Pena, a cousin, pleaded for the driver to show up.

"I want the person who did this to know what she did," she said.
