Workers at New York and New Jersey airports are getting the salary approval they've been waiting for for years.

the The Council of Port Commissioners announced Thursday the unanimous decision to adopt an expanded minimum wage policy for airport workers JFK International, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International.

It is said that this policy will reduce the wages of thousands of workers to about $ 40,000 to $ 19 per hour by 2023.

As of November 1, 2018, there will also be an increase of $ 2 per hour for Newark workers to align the wages of workers at the three airports. The rest of the increases will be eliminated in the next five years.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the decision shows that the state stands alongside the workers.

"This campaign is about respecting and paying a decent wage for honest work in an industry that relies on its employees to safely operate some of the most important public facilities in our country – our airports," he said. he declared.
