Students from Dartmouth College were invited to be on site for more than two hours on Friday night after officials said that a man had been shot dead.

According to an alert from the school, the Hanover police reported his presence at 21:50. that a non-Dartmouth student was shot on a sidewalk in front of the Christian Science Reading Room at 1 School St.

An on-site shelter order was then issued until Saturday, 12:35 pm, at which time officials released it. In a tweet, the school said that officials had responded to other reports of gunshots "and found nothing to indicate that shots had been fired at these places".

The 19-year-old man shot in front of the Christian Science Reading Room was taken to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He was in a stable state on Saturday morning, the Hanover police said in a press release.

The Hanover police said Saturday afternoon that it was an "isolated event".

"We are convinced that there are no other security issues related to those involved in this incident," police said in a press release.

Police in Lebanon also said they responded to reports of gunshots fired near Near Main Street and Fountain Way around 11:15 on Friday night. It is not known whether any material evidence was found or whether it was related to the Hanover incident.

Also in Lebanon, a 17-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested after a lawsuit that ended in an accident at Oak Ridge Road around 23:30. Police said the men had fled into a Ford Fusion on Highway 10 after an officer attempted to arrest them for investigating a suspicious vehicle report. Neither one nor the other was injured in the accident.

It is unclear whether the lawsuit was related to the report on the previous shots or incident in Hanover.
