Two people were found dead under the debris after the collapse of a wall Friday night at an Amazon distribution center in Baltimore.
The first person was found Friday night and taken to the hospital. However, an employee was not enumerated, according to the local WBAL news radio station. At first, it was unclear whether the person had not reported for work or perhaps left the city before the incident. The research teams worked for hours that night and then found the missing person under rubble before driving her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Saturday morning. No other injuries have been reported.
According to NBC News, a storm swept the area, breaking the wall by 20 meters and forcing the occupants of the building to evacuate.
Amazon Vice President of Operations, Dave Clark, issued a statement, reported by WBAL, stating, "Last night, extreme weather hit one of our facilities in Baltimore, killing two people. First responders stay on site to assess the damage. The safety of our employees and our subcontractors is our top priority and, for the time being, the building remains closed. We are extremely grateful for the quick response of the emergency services. Our thoughts and prayers are with families affected by the tragic event of Friday night. "
Brandon McBride, an Amazon employee who worked in the building, told NBC News that the scene was chaotic and scary with parcels left in the rain.
"It looked like bombs were falling everywhere," McBride said. "There were things falling everywhere, we could see that the walls were falling apart."
