2 dead after the overthrow of a tanker truck and oil spills on Highway 18

The driver and a passenger from a tank truck died after the vehicle rollover Saturday on Highway 18 in Colts Neck, police said.

The wreck occurred around 5 pm. on the road heading north, near marker 22, according to Lt. Frank Leccese. No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

The tanker was carrying a small amount of fuel oil, which spilled on the shoulder, Leccese said. Representatives from the Monmouth County Hazardous Materials Team and the State Environmental Protection Department took care of spilled oil.

The police did not disclose the names of the deceased while the officials were working to inform the family members.

All roads on the road remained closed north near Colts Neck Road at about 9 pm. Saturday, according to the state's transportation department.
