EST LOS ANGELES, CA –

A suspect was killed and two MPs were injured during a shootout Wednesday in a park in East Los Angeles.

"We are very fortunate that they are in a serious but stable condition," said Sheriff Jim McDonnell of Los Angeles County, outside the USC medical center of BAC +. "It could have ended very differently tonight.

"Both are seasoned MPs with more than 10 years at work, I would not want to go into the details of injuries, except that they were shot in the upper body." They are in good hands tonight in this hospital."

Another suspect was injured and taken to a hospital where his condition was unknown. It was unclear whether he had been injured during the shooting in the park.

A third suspect was also arrested, said deputy Armando Viera Jr. of the sheriff's information bureau.

According to MP Marvin Crowder, MPs had previously sought a possible fourth suspect, but there are no suspects pending.

Filming took place shortly after 6:35 pm at Ruben F. Salazar Park located at 3864, boul. Whittier

The shooting followed a continuation of a BMW, reported ABC7.

McDonnell met with family members of injured deputies at the LAC + USC Medical Center, according to Nicole Nishida, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Information Officer.

McDonnell also expressed his thanks to the other members of the police for their support.

"LAPD immediately sought to know if they could be useful," McDonnell said. "The way the situation has unfolded is good at this stage, but we certainly appreciate the thoughts, prayers and the contact we have received from so many people."

The sheriff's homicide detectives asked anyone with information about the incident to call them at (323) 890-5500.
