A selection of Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Donnie McClurkin, CeCe Winans and Mary Mary gathered at the American Music Awards on Tuesday, October 9 to pay tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, with a medley centered on the roots of the gospel of Franklin, including several hymns that she had interpreted famous interpretations of.

After a special video tribute to the legendary Queen of Soul, which focuses on the long history of the artist as a host, performer and award winner at AMA, Knight has gone on stage to stage interpret Franklin's stretched interpretation, "Amazing Grace". Next, gospel minister and singer McClurkin asked Knight to present "Climb Higher Mountains", which was used as a recession song at his funeral.

From there, the legend of the Gospel Winans delivered a catchy rendition of "Mary Don's You Weep", followed by jazz singer R & B / Ledisi singing a tonic "How I Got Over". The contemporary gospel duo Mary Mary closed with an "Old Landmark" supported by a set.

"What an amazing night!" was any host Tracie Ellis-Ross could say review after. Watch the performance here.
