2018 MLB Playoff Matches: Yankees' CC Sabathia Rips Off Terrible Referee Angel Hernandez

NEW YORK — The Yankees starting pitcher, CC Sabathia, wants referee Angel Hernandez to be deported.

The big southpaw never wants to see Hernandez again in the playoffs.

"I do not understand why he's playing in the playoffs," Sabathia said. "He's terrible behind the plate, he was terrible on first base … It's amazing how he gets a referee job in these playoff games."

Sabathia beat Hernandez following the Yankees' 4-2 defeat of the Red Sox in the fourth game of the American League Division playoff at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

Who else shares the feeling of Sabathia?

"Everyone," he says. "I think if you'll ask (the Red Sox) on the other side too."

Yankees studs & duds of the fourth match

Sabathia was not good on Tuesday, allowing three points in three innings in the loss, but he said Hernandez was "absolutely" not the reason the Yankees lost.

Aged 38, Hernandez does not like being on the same pitch as him.

"He's always bad, he's a bad referee," Sabathia said.

He added: "It's just sad that he's doing these (playoff) games. It's crazy."

Hernandez was a lightning rod all season.

His appeals have been challenged five times. Four of them were reversed.

Hernandez was particularly brutal to first base in the third game, where replay challenges canceled three of his calls. At one point, he said to Voit: "I will have the next right. "

YES analyst John Flaherty, former receiver of the Yankees, also tore Hernandez after the third match.

"I think back to the broadcast of Luke Voit's first game, where Angel Hernandez was really right," Flaherty said via an email from the YES network. "And when he came back, next to Voit, he (Hernandez) made him a little comment (Voit), and smiled a little, almost, you know," I have a right. "

"It's not that funny, Angel, it's playoff games, it's a bargain, and replaying it defeats it, and it's going to be a good game, but you have to think about the first thing you do."
